Analyses of farmed fish and feed for farmed fish

Farmed fish may contain undesirables that have been transferred from the feed to the filet. In order to ensure food safety, NIFES carries out analyses to determine the content of legal and illegal medications, organic undesirables, additives, prohibited feed substances and heavy metals in Norwegian farmed fish and feed for farmed fish.

Surveillance activities are carried out on behalf of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, and more than 10% of Norway’s fish farming installations are represented annually. Each year, NIFES publishes the Laksresults of its monitoring activities in its web pages and reports, and also in the Seafood Data database.
